It is hot in Lao’s late spring. Therefore we started cycling early, to make most of the cooler hours in the morning. And then you get to observe most of the life in the villages. At seven the roosters chose their ladies, fighting away competitors. But during the game they are already looking around for the next lady. No wonder there are that many hens along Lao’s roads. Lots of children, hundreds are on the way to school. They meet us with a bright smile. On the ladder of the wooden shelters «kids» are breastfeeding babies and older women are standing on a corner, chatting with each other. The pig seems to be doing its own shopping – she is digging under the market store.
At the edge of the village the rubbish is burning. The rubbish that wasn’t left lying in the gully.
With increasing temperature everything becomes slow. Men and women are sitting or lying together on some open shelters.
In the evening a bit of life comes back to the villages. It is time for trading and eating. After seven it becomes quiet in rural Laos.
